The Industrial Gas Museum was inaugurated in 2013 at Technopolis to showcase an important part of the city’s modern history: the old gas plant that provided energy and lighting to the capital for approximately 120 years. The gas production line and the museum route are enriched with new technologies, interactive applications, and 3D projections, alongside historical documentation, design reconstructions of mechanical equipment, and rich audiovisual material.

This rare industrial monument by European standards, and the only one that preserves its entire mechanical equipment in situ, has been transformed into an integral, living part of the city. It has opened its doors to the public with events and activities for all, including temporary exhibitions, theatrical performances, educational programs, sleepovers, late-night happenings, and interactive guided tours, among others.

Since its opening, the Industrial Gas Museum, with a strong focus on creative learning for all ages, has organized a wide variety of original educational programs, workshops, and guided tours throughout the year for children, teenagers, adults, families, and school groups.

In 2023, the museum celebrated its 10-year anniversary by launching a series of special events and initiatives to refresh its permanent exhibition.

Update on the Operation of Technopolis’ Recreational Areas During Events

Technopolis City of Athens is a vibrant cultural and recreational space, open and accessible to the public throughout the year. Our goal is to keep its facilities available to visitors for as long as possible, offering an enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages. We actively advocate for the public’s need for more open spaces that are accessible to everyone, and we constantly support this effort.

However, as a venue that hosts major cultural events, particularly during the summer, Technopolis implements, where necessary, special operating and access regulations. Our main priority is the safety of visitors -and especially children-, as well as the smooth running of events, in accordance with the operating conditions and the specific needs of each event. We always strive to provide the widest possible access to our facilities without, however, compromising on safety.

We also note that the Technopolis playground operates on the premises for the recreation of our young visitors. It is necessarily subject to the operating hours and conditions dictated by the multifaceted nature of Technopolis and the events it hosts.

In this context, from June through October 2026, during major events -and particularly concerts- the playground and other recreational areas (Café, SkyWalk) will remain open until 5:30 p.m.

The summer events schedule is available on the Technopolis website, which is regularly updated to reflect any changes.

Thank you for your understanding.

Note: The same arrangements apply to the opening hours of the Industrial Gas Museum. For detailed opening hours, please contact the IGM directly.

Our industrial-aesthetics venues, 7 buildings and 2 open spaces of the old Athens gasworks plant, can accommodate all types of cultural and corporate events, offering unlimited possibilities while meeting every costumer customer’s need.

The venues’ inherent advantages are complimented by high-tech audiovisual equipment, as well as excellent services offered by our highly trained and qualified staff.

The Technopolis City of Athens was established in 1999 and is located in the old gasworks of Athens. This rare industrial monument has been repurposed to offer visitors a glimpse into the city's rich history while providing an immersive cultural experience. With over a million visitors each year, the space is bustling with activity, attracting people of all ages and backgrounds, making it a popular destination in the heart of the city.

Technopolis envisions a world where diverse communities thrive, cultures are celebrated, and life is enriched through a myriad of experiences. By organizing an array of cultural, social, recreational, and educational activities, Technopolis strives to enhance the quality of life for Athenians and visitors alike.

Every year, the venue hosts approximately 900 events that serve as an inspiration for the community. From concerts, exhibitions, festivals, and screenings to theatre performances, events promoting inclusion, and historical memorials, there is always something for everyone. The city's commitment to innovation is reflected in seminars on new technologies and initiatives promoting growth. The Industrial Gas Museum also offers educational programs and events, a source of inspiration and an opportunity for everyone to discover the endless possibilities through entertainment, learning, and community engagement.

In Technopolis, we believe in the power of community, spreading its activities throughout the city, utilizing public spaces and collaborating with residents to create a welcoming environment for all, inspired by global trends and developments in contemporary artistic creation.

Technopolis values inclusivity, democracy, and accessibility, standing up against discrimination and social exclusion.

Today, Technopolis is an integral part of the cultural landscape of Athens, inspiring residents and visitors alike to come together and celebrate the power of culture.

Since 2001, the Athens Jazz has been inviting us at the end of spring, just before summer, to a music trip, marking thus the start of the concert season in Athens. The city's longest-running music event, with free admission, has been hosting a variety of international, acclaimed jazz trends, bands and groups from all over the globe, attracting more than 6,000 visitors daily.

Thus, Technopolis has become the setting for a seven-day exciting cultural feast. The Athenians and visitors to the city are invited to participate in an exciting celebration, with jazz music at its core. The Athens Jazz opens its doors to welcome the public from morning till evening, allowing young and old to enjoy a rich - international standards - music program, with live shows and more at Gazi and throughout the city.

Since 2016, Technopolis has been celebrating July’s full moon, the most beautiful of the summer, by organizing the Full Moon Fiesta, a free-to-attend musical institution which holds an important place in the hearts of Athenians of every age. Full Moon Fiesta presents its audience with internationally acknowledged artists and collaborations of beloved, acclaimed and up-and-coming artists from Greece and abroad. Every year, the Full Moon Fiesta experience is supplemented by a wide range of side activities.
